  1.      Roy Rogers is an American hero.  Indeed, few have been
  2. so effective in influencing the youth of this nation.  Roy,
  3. a famous cowboy in the years before television, crowded the
  4. movie houses each Saturday with nine year old cowboys eager
  5. to see him once again bring the villan to justice.  A noted
  6. style of his movies was to restrict the use of guns.  Humor
  7. replaced violence.  Western songs replaced the blazing guns
  8. of the holdup scene.  A slight trace of romance was allowed
  9. in the movie plots, but Roy would never kiss the girl.  Roy
  10. explained that this resulted from some unexpected fan mail.
  11.      Early in his career Roy did kiss the leading lady in a
  12. movie.  However, following the viewing of this movie by his
  13. youthful fans, his mail was deluged with letters protesting
  14. the romantic scene.  From that time Roy limited displays of
  15. affection to a friendly hug of his horse, Trigger.  Roy has
  16. retired from performing in cowboy movies.  After many years
  17. of performing with her in cowboy movies, Roy was married to
  18. his leading lady, Dale Evans.  Although retired, they often
  19. appear in such events as the Rose Bowl Parade.  Often, many
  20. former nine year old cowboys attend only to applaud a hero.
  21.
